Graphic Novels are books made up of comic strips that tell a complete narrative. The word "novel" refers to a long fictional text, however, a graphic novel can be a fiction, non-fiction, or anthologized.

What is the difference between a Graphic Novel and a Comic Book?

  • A Graphic Novel is a complete narrative where as a Comic Book contains excerpts of serialized narratives. Comic books are also hard to read out of order. Graphic Novels are longer and are an easy-to-read text/visual content mix, they tend to possess more depth than a regular comic book.

Manga are graphic novels or comics originating from Japan. The artwork in Manga usually conforms to a style developed in the 19th century.

  • Manga has many genres.

  • Translated into other languages.

  • Artwork is usually printed in black and white.

  • Originated from Japanese scrolls dating back to the 12th Century. 

    • Believed to be the reason why Manga is read right-to-left.​

    • Manhwa - South Korea
